Stocks rise on semester’s end

By James A. Loyola

The local stock market bounced  on the last day of the first semester  on window dressing and some bargain hunting after recent weakness and inspiration from strong overnight Wall Street gains .

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) rose 102.54 points or 1.68 percent to close at 6,207.72 as all sectors were in the green.

Volume was higher with 857 million shares worth P6.47 billion changing hands as gainers beat losers 118 to 70 with 54 unchanged.

“Philippine shares closed the second quarter on a positive note as shares rose sharply with Wall Street cheering news on Boeing and traders shrugged off the latest surge in coronavirus cases,” said Regina Capital Development Corporation Managing Director Luis Limlingan.
